4Rs Handling Conflict

Here’s an infographic on how to handle possible conflict of interest at your organization. We call it the 4Rs of Handling Conflict of Interest.

Reveal

Promptly declare to the board of directors any conflict of interest and ask that such declaration be recorded in the minutes.

Recuse

Refrain from all discussion of, and voting on, the matter giving rise to the conflict of interest.

Remove

Excuse yourself from the portion of the meeting where the matter giving rise to the conflict of interest is being discussed.

Return

After the matter giving rise to the conflict of interest has been discussed and/or voted on, you may return to the meeting.
